Man, that's wide for a prime. I think most would rather have something in the 24-35mm equivalent range, so like 15-20mm f2. That i would buy.

True, but its also quite unique, I cant think of another manufacturer with a fast uberwide like this for APS-C

Canon needs to make a 30mm 1.4 or 1.8 so that us APS-C users can have a 50mm equivalent without going to Sigma.

I don't think it's a priority for them because they have the 28 f/1.8.

And the 35mm f/1.4L which is more likely to see a mark II

Then again i see the competition offering a lot of cheap primes similar to the Nikon 35mm f/1.8...

But I wouldnt want to see Nifty fifty build on it

You mean besides the 4 they already make? :)

(28mm f2.8, 28mm f1.8, 35mm f2, 35mm f1.4)

28mm f/2.8? Eh..not that great, theres a couple zooms that are f/2.8 and are pretty much as sharp, i think its quite cheap though not sure....but its mechanical quality is a bit eh

28mm f/1.8 is OK except for price and the fact its really not the best lens out there, Its not horrible, but its not really "great" either

The 35mm f/2 is alright, pretty good optically, but the bokeh can be strange and its mechanically an antique

the 35L is just expensive..

I think an EF-S 35mm f/1.8 USM would be better optically and mechanically...

It would have to be, otherwise what would be the point! :)

I just don't think Canon has any incentive. They can keep selling 15-20 year old lenses in that price range and not have to fund any new R+D and marketing.

True but on the opposite side if the competition keeps introducing new primes that perform better in the price bracket Canon is losing sales

if theres one thing i learned here is that if Canon offered a EF-S 35mm f/1.8 USM for $350-400 most shooters would buy it over the Sigma 30mm f/1.4, I see a lot of cropper shooters using the 30mm f/1.4 Sigma, thats a lot of business Canon could have..Theres also the people who own the 35mm f/2 and that who might just upgrade to the new EF-S 35mm f/1.8..Heck even some people with the 35L might because the EF-S would be smaller and lighter and likely be its equal in optics...

I dont think Canon would have to invest much to come up with a good performing EF-S 35mm f/1.8 USM....

Look at Nikon's 35mm f/1.8, which is a runaway hit, with a lot of Nikon shooters picking the thing up since its ONLY a $200 lens...

I see your point, but i also think its a little market segment Canon needs a presence in

Looks to be a very interesting lens! I just wonder, why 11mm?

To me, 8mm or 10mm would be a bit more, "special". But 11mm is still damn wide for a crop, and at f/2 would be an awesome video lens in low light.

Just when I sold all my crop lenses... Looks cool though, I'd be all over that, and if it's small, I still might.

I'd rather it be 10mm f/2 or 15mm f/1.4. I suspect it would come with an L price tag too without the L quality.
