7D Question about viewfinder

It doesn't happen all the time and it doesn't affect the images and I never saw it on my old Rebel, but when I look through the viewfinder of my 7D it looks like:

not sure how to describe it
1) I am looking through a sliding glass door with the screen shut
2) it has some sort of plastic protective film over the lens (like you might use on a laptop or pda screen)

Any idea what I am talking about or what this is?? And as a disclaimer, it could very well happen on all cameras, this is not a 7D rant thread, I freaking love it!

Was the battery dead or removed? The 7D has a transmissive LCD screen and if you look through the viewfinder when the camera is not powered, it will look dark and blurry.

If it's like it all the time make sure the Diopter is dialed in.If it only happens without battery then as above.


Canon 5D MK II,7d,70-200 L F2.8,24-70L,100mm Macro usm F2.8,sigma 150-500 OS,50mm 1.8 mk II,580 ex II. :D
