I bought a Photoclam PT224 from Kerry at Reallybigcameras and received it a few days back. Really like it for its height. Its system for locking the legs at the angles is very nice vs. my Benro. I find the legs a little stiff to extend but I guess that's not too bad of a problem to have.

My problem came when I had it set up and I noticed one leg seemed to curve. Indeed, when I studied it further the second twist lock CF tube angled out just a little diagonally. When closed, you can see that one twist lock doesn't quite fully close which allows some of the carbon fibre tube to show on one side of the twist lock but not the other.

Removing the twist lock and its the threaded piece that appears to be the cause of the issue. Can this be straightened out? I've tried contacting Kerry about a return for replacement but haven't heard anything back and was wondering if this is a common issue with an easy solution.

With the cost of the tripod I feel that its legs should be perfectly straight, the other two legs are, my Benro is, so are my expectations out of line?

I heard from Kerry yesterday but waiting to hear from him today on making a purchase from him. I am wondering if he is off today because he always gets right back to me. I would wait for him because I am positive he will take care of it for you

Yes

(its actual folded length is 18.9")

Kerry sells them. For me its a good size vs. the Benro 268 I bought first. The benro is equivalent to the Gitzo 1541. The Photoclam is a little larger folded up but much taller. More similar to the popular Feisol C3441T.

Here is a couple pictures of the problem, Kerry contacted me and is going to see what the manufacturer wants to do:

I'm still waiting on a response from Kerry/Photoclam. I e-mailed him Thursday for an update after a week. I'll let you guys know as it's rare we get to see a review of a companies warranty responsiveness.

Heard from Kerry tonight, Photoclam is going to send a replacement leg to him or me...It's up to me. Very happy with Photoclam and Kerry's service! Highly recommended to both of them.

Did he have any more in stock? They wouldn't just exchange the tripod for another one? That should be faster than waiting for a replacement leg to come from overseas. I guess it's okay since you've got the Benro to use, but I don't think I'd be happy with waiting.

I'd actually prefer this way as it saves me from having to ship this tripod back. I've done enough shipping in the past 2 months that I really want to avoid anymore. The tripod is perfectly functional as well. At least with the weight of my lenses I don't notice any performance decrease.

So far Photoclam support has been far from ideal. It's been a month since I made this thread and no leg shipped from Kerry. Any updates I have gotten from Kerry which have been very slow have stated he hasn't heard anything specific. I'll keep you guys updated.
