This was a student project I made for a beginning film-making class in college, and is my first attempt at making a short film. It had to be between 2 and 6 minutes, and couldn't contain any synchronized dialogue. My responsibilities were writing the script, directing, filming, editing, post production sound, and any vfx and color grading that needed to be done.

Hope you guys find some entertainment from it. It was shot in a single night with some friends, so don't be too harsh on the acting.

Equipment used: Canon Rebel T2i, Sigma 30mm f1.4 EX lens, Manfrotto tripod/fluid head, a rubber band to smooth my panning/tilt shots (#winning), LCDVF viewfinder, and a lighting equipment package that I rented from school.

I made a cheap website for it so I could easily distribute it to friends and relatives, so here's the site: www.TheLetterHD.com (external link).

Final Cut Pro 7, After Effects CS5 for the text and the gunshot vfx, and some other "effects" that aren't really effects... more like visual fixes.

Amazing. Did you write the screenplay yourself?

Very, very good work. Excellent visual storytelling, and the technical merit is top notch as well. Great music and SFX. Everything was very impressive.

I'm curious, what'd you use for sound?

Did you foley the walking etc.?

I did write the film. Celtx is a nice free program for that sort of thing. All sound effects were from a stock sound package library from school because I didn't have any portable sound equipment at the time.

Appreciate the comments, guys!

Great job. I had no idea the T2i was capable of anything near as good as that. Very well written and directed. I particularly liked the way our attention was held between cuts.

(but the forensic scientists will know it was murder due to lack of gun-shot residue on the body)

A couple of questions for you. First off, just curious, what film school do you go to? Did you do the fx in post for the gunshot? How did you accomplish the spins on the letter? My guess is it was shot in 1080 and switched to 720 in post so you had room to play with the spinning?

I keep watching this over and over again. It's so eerily haunting and so well done. You've seriously inspired me haha
