Hey guys,

I've seen this lens up on FM and around here before in the hundred ish + dollar range, now one just popped up locally for around $85...

Worth it? I do need a telephoto, and also the "Macro" aspect appeals to me.

I think it's a discontinued piece of glass, so I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with it?

Please let me know!

Discontinued about 12 years ago. The reviews that I found are quite decent re image quality. Well built. Interesting push-pull zooming. Today I took a few shots with a friend's Canon EF 70-210 and found the results quite acceptable. Modern kit lenses with IS are another option, depending on the intended use. For $100-120, you can't beat it for a 70-210 f/4.

Sure you can - The 70-210 USM sometimes sells within this range.

But it doesn't have a constant aperture.

I have the 70-210 and it's a fantastic piece of glass for the money. It's not that nice to use (slow autofocus, poor push/pull zoom), but the images are quite good.
