Hey all,

I have a Canon 85 1.8 and absolutely love it. I use it in the water shooting surfing and it is fast sharp and accurate.

Problem is it is a bit tight and a touch redundant now that I have a 70-200 water port.

My question is for sigma 50 1.4 sport shooters.

Does the focus speed compare to the 85 at all?

Here are some results of the 85mm 1.8 that I expect from the 50mm sigma. Is this unreasonable for the Sigma to compete?

Thanks for your time.

If those images are full frame, I'd say you need a longer lens, not a shorter one.

i have the siggy 50 1.4, i would say the focus is quick in so far as the speed of the usm, but the accuracy on tracking is poor, i would stick with the 85

I bought my 85mm for indoor HS basketball, and like you I love it. But I chose to skip all the way down to 28mm f/1.8 for small indoor rooms and general walking around.

Yes the 85 is great, i wish Canon made a 50 that was a great sports lens just like it.
I have the 1.8 but rarely use it for sport, its not as accurate as the 85.
