Last weekend made my 3rd annual trek out to Nebraska to spend a night in a photo blind along the Platte River. We had a nice sunset and of course there were lots of cranes around. It's always a great experience to be right there in the middle of thousands of cranes.

Awesome Liz. I made another trip to the San Luis Valley to see them there last month, and I was wondering if you went to Nebraska again. : )

I get chills whenever I see a sandhill crane posting. I saw too many Air Force training planes emergency land with windshields destroyed and dead student pilots from in flight crashes with sandhill cranes in west Texas. Beautiful birds, just wish they didn't fly quite so high.

Beautiful shots Liz! I like the sunset image and the last shot. We didn't see very many Sandhills this year (west Texas) like last years past. We would see thousands that would gather in the fields but none this year. :(

Thanks for looking and commenting everyone! It's always a fun trip and very worthwhile if you ever get the chance. It's a day's drive from my house, so not too bad for a long weekend. Rowe Sanctuary has a nice visitor center. We took a crane behavior class so it was more interesting to watch them knowing a little of that background. This year the cranes seemed to do less dancing than I had noticed in previous years. One thing that was really cool this time was the 7 whooping cranes that we were able to see from the visitor center in their spotting scope! Much to far away for a photo, but nice to see nonetheless. I'm sure I'll be back next year!
