Cheap spot lights

With the price of lighting it probably isn't worth the bother. But last night I was thinking about spot lighting. I'll have to price it out, but if you take a few of those clamp on lights with the stainless shield around then, ran the cord into a 2x2 box with a dimmer switch, you could have some cheap accent lights. Plus you could use colored bulbs?
Just a thought?

They dont have much power behind them unlike a strobe or true hot light.

A simple 50$ hotshoe strobe will have alot more power then most continuous DIY rigs. unless youre talking alot of bulbs... which i would just argue alot of 50$ flashes :P

When i needed small accent lights, i picked up a few YN 460s, they are pretty sucky as flashes, buttons suck, battery door sucks, but its a decent accent light.

work light kits are pretty underpowered. If you want to go that route get some halogen tube work lights, not the clamp style with the reflector, but the 500 watt monsters. You would need to scrim them somehow if you do. But as mentioned above, when you can get YN flashes for around $50 there is little reason to fart about with hot lights that are a poor light source under the best of conditions.
