I have a 055XPROB that doesn't have the two rubber leg grips. I don't think I need the leg warmers as they are bulky but would like to have a little more grip when carrying from the car to wherever I'm going to shoot.

I can order the two grips from Manfrotto for $21 w/shipping (not too much) but wondering if anyone had ever used tennis/golf grip tape (less than $10) or if there were any alternatives that anyone has used in the past.

No experience with alternative grips, I'd also look into:

- Baseball Bat Grip Tape.
- Thin Skateboard Deck Tape thats flexible: Negative One

I came with it but my Lab decided to use it as a chew toy.

tennis/golf grip tape should work, but you might also consider hockey grip tape. it has a little bit of cushion and doesn't use adhesives. it just grips itself ontop of the previous layer like velcro.

Tennis grip replacements (not tape to put over regular grips) have lots of cushioning.

I'm actually leaning towards purchasing the OEM grips but not looking forward to removing the flip-locks but this shouldn't be too hard, right? I bought it second hand so it didn't come with manual or any sort of wrench but wrench/allen wrench should do the trick right?

Last time i saw the leg warmers in their website i thought it has a zipper on the side to put it on and off? Not sure though. I gotta look again.

Edit: just saw it. It does look like it uses zippers. No need for allen wrench or to disassemble the legs.

One can also use foam pipe insulation (available in many hardware stores and most home improvement stores) to cover the upper leg sections of a tripod.

If you get the right size, you won't have to wrap tape around the outside.

Foam pipe insulation typically has a strip of tape on each side of the slit. You pull off a piece of thin plastic from both sides of the slit and just press the exposed sticky surfaces together to make an essentially permanent bond.
