So I have 1x 580EX II, 1x YN-560, cybersyncs and a convertible 45" umbrella (which I just picked up yesterday). Just wondering what to pick up next. Q Box? Need some suggestions. Go nuts!

Definitely pick up a softbox.... I have a Qbox24 and since picking it up I don't use the umbrella all that much anymore. Let me know if you want to check out the Qbox. ;)

What the heck is a soft box umbrella? And does anyone else have much experience with the Q-Box and speedlite? What are the advantages of one type of modifier over another? Sorry, I'm sure these questions have been asked a billion times but my learning curve has been going insanely fast and I don't wanna slow down :P

Umbrella softbox is a softbox that sets up like an umbrella. Westcott Apollo softboxes are like that.

It's nice to use a softbox outside b/c it's a bit more stable than an umbrella. When shooting inside softbox is easier to control than umbrella.

Ryan if you look at my portraits on Flickr they're mostly done with the Qbox.

Thanks Bob! I was going through your photos and got to the photo walk ones and was like, WAIT... I know this guy!! Haha... You've got some great photos up there man! :) I see you're into snowshoeing as well - where did you go? My gf and I are thinking about heading up to Elphin Lakes in Squamish next weekend.

Thanks. Qbox 24 is an awesome modifier you won't regret it. Westcott Apollo and Softlighter II is also pretty decent as it opens up and sets up like an umbrella. However your flash sits inside the softbox so changing the power settings can be a pain in the neck.

I only really snowshoe when I'm slacking off. More of a backcountry skiing person. Elfin Lake is a great place to check out. Depending on the road condition you might want to park below the steep hill and walk up to the trailhead.
