Personal notes:
- I am VERY comfortable to use this camera at ISO 3200. I find the ISO/Noise control to be absolutely fantastic!
- These are SOOC jpegs as there are no RAW support for now.

I'm assuming you'll be taking side-by-side comparisons too, no? Instead of taking the 7D photos a week from now likely under different lighting conditions? And what were the in-camera NR settings?

wow, that's actually quite impressive, and coincides with the early reports about high iso performance. If you can, please post a photo of the x100 side by side with the 7D so we can get some ideal of size differences. Looks like the Fuji is more agressive on the sharpening than the 5D

Very good point! I'll be posting the Canon EOS 5D Mark II vs Fujifilm X100 now.

What were the in-camera NR settings for the x100? Well the names are silly - High, medium high, medium, medium soft, soft.

Wow....I'll be honest - the 5D (woops, originally wrote the Fuji) looks better in all instances. What aperture would be needed to make the same DOF? The FUji's DOF looks to be much thinner, sometimes causing me to look at the seams on the jeans and thinking it is unsharp - when it is just OOF. The Fuji is no slouch though, very impressive.

absolutely full frame is where it's at! :D I'll be redoing this exact same test! What would you like to see? The DOF to be similar across cameras? Next time, I'll have the 5D at f/6.3

Pretty impressive.

oh it is. It REALLY is. I'm ditching the 7D for this camera - still not 100% sure. I'm so thrilled by the IQ of this camera.

The X100 does look pretty good. Is it possible to do the same top/bottom comparison with the X100 and 7D?

It does look very good, however could you do a test using something that has some detail to it? I believe I can see where the noise reduction on the X100 starts to show at the higher ISOs, especially in the details of the jeans, right at about ISO 3200 and up. Smooth surfaces can really hide what in-camera noise reduction is doing.

Still quite impressive!

I was very comfortable shooting my 7D at ISO 3200 too though. For example, a full rez portrait with the 7D...

It would be nice if you had a living subject who would just sit there and not move through these tests, but that would never happen at my house unless they were all asleep. :)

Absolutely! The X100 will EAT the 7D and POOP undigested 7D parts on other 7Ds (in terms of noise control and Image quality). LOL. I'm just joking. HAHAHAH! But we will see. PLEASE DON'T CALL ME OUT ON THIS! I AM JUST JOKING CALM DOWN!

Great portrait! Do you have the untouched SOOC file from that shot?

Haha I'm not offended. Just because I have a 7D doesn't mean I think it's the best thing ever. I would honestly like to see the two side-by-side. I realize that there is always going to be something out there better than what I have and I'm good with that. I think it's good to see progress in IQ and noise, whatever company it comes from. Several years ago I owned a Sony DSLR that was absolutely pathetic at high ISO and swore I would never own another camera from them and now I own an NEX-3. For it's size and price I'm happy with the images.

I will have to see, I am very poor at keeping my raws around, and yes, go ahead and slap my hand. :)

I need to start keeping those around more than I do, if nothing else, software gets better and gives new life to old CR2 files.
