I'm HEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D I didn't know that this thread was back up until Alan told me.

So Julian, you bought one! :D Congratulations on your purchase...

Here are my notes for discussion as I have to head out soon:
- You are 100% rightabout the low-light images of the X100! I learned this the hard way when I took it out into a club. In well-lit situations, the X100 does well for itself and the colors/images are good. However, at poorly lit situations, the x100 turns to utter crap. Mainly because the AF doesnt work (the assist lamp is a BLINDING white light)
- the Camera does have a TON of limitations such as poor read/write speeds, and parallax at close distances. I've got a great tip for you! If you want to use macro mode and at optical viewfinder together, turn the camera to manual AF mode. The AF button will be switched to the back AF button, however, you do experience HEAVY parallax. try it out!
- Try the Auto-ISO feature. It's quite handy since there's no dedicated ISO button. My Fn button was switched over to the ND filter.

Between you and me, kinda have regrets at the moment. I wished that I bought a used 5Dc instead after playing with AlanU's 5Dc. I've already made two mistakes because I haven't followed my gut. Next time i will. 1st mistake was buying the 7D instead of the 5dc, next was replacing the 7d with a x100 instead of the 5dc and now i know what camera I really want next. LOL.

Here's some pictures from the x100. (You're right again. it's always in the Edit).

Thanks Marlon. I'm loving it so far. :) Anyways, I love the samples from this camera. I also saw your video review and the feedback is similar to Steve Huff. :)

Just a few more comparisons to post up along with anecdotal reports now that I'm a few more days in:

Again, just to point out (as everyone knows), the x100 is not meant to replace DSLRs. It's the lighter/smaller alternative (though I still consider it a large-sized P&S). The following photos were taken at f/2.0 @ iso3200.

I was on my way up the elevator tonight and I thought I'd try and get a close-up shot of the little engraving/sign on the side of the elevator door. Lighting was not great, but certainly wasn't horrible. And I figured a metallic silver against a dark gray background should provide sufficient contrast to lock focus. Yet it didn't... despite AF-assist light coming on.

So when I got home, I decided to do a little more testing.

Photo #1, I was testing to see how well/accurate AF was in low-light, but what I thought was high-enough contrast (silver button). The x100 could not lock for the life of me. I made sure macro mode was engaged. I thought at first that it was an MFD issue so in another photo, I backed away from the keys and that turned out to be even more dreadful than this one. The camera will let you take the photo regardless of AF locked or not. And despite the AF-assist lamp being turned on, it didn't help at all with trying to lock focus.

The same scene did not phase the 7D + 24Lii at all. No hunting, single point (not spot AF) and instantly locked.

Photo #2 came as a result of #1, where I thought there was an issue with x100's MFD. And as it turns out, the x100 was able to get MUCH closer and able to focus on the label than the 24L's MFD. I guess it liked the label more than the black/silver combo of the switchblade keys. (For the comparison, I used the x100 photo that best matched the 24Lii's MFD so the x100 does not properly demonstrate how much closer it could have been.)

So it looks like the contrast detection AF for the x100 has some surprising limitations. It hung on what I thought would provide sufficient contrast (traditionally). But the NR on this puppy is pretty good for a P&S. ;)
