Nice work on the comparisons, thanks for it.

Also realize we're viewing 5D2 crops vs X100 at 100%, so I'd imagine properly downscaled 5D2 shots would appear sharper.

I don't have a race in this horse, as I don't own either one. Just sayin ;)
(actually I'm pretty darn brand-agnostic. If you knew my camera history, you'd agree I think).

I read this today over at LL

http://www.luminous-landscape.com …lm_x100_test_report.shtml (external link)

and this sorta bums me out about the control scheme and the focus by wire :( especially the number of turns it takes to MF. Looks like it's mostly for autofocus folks.

Still, looks like a very nice camera and I've been very impressed with the high ISO from almost every shot I've seen.

Haha I'm not offended. Just because I have a 7D doesn't mean I think it's the best thing ever. I would honestly like to see the two side-by-side. I realize that there is always going to be something out there better than what I have and I'm good with that. I think it's good to see progress in IQ and noise, whatever company it comes from. Several years ago I owned a Sony DSLR that was absolutely pathetic at high ISO and swore I would never own another camera from them and now I own an NEX-3. For it's size and price I'm happy with the images.

I'm sorry that I got carried away in the other thread. there are a lot of good points to the 7D HOWEVER, it doesnt meet my UNIQUE (EXTREMELY high standards) needs. I have an addiction to IQ and someday - hopefully before I reach the age of 30, I'll be shooting with a digital MF camera. SIGH. My pocket hurts just thinking of it. HEHEHEHE.

I will have to see, I am very poor at keeping my raws around, and yes, go ahead and slap my hand. :)

I need to start keeping those around more than I do, if nothing else, software gets better and gives new life to old CR2 files.

NOT KEEP RAW FILES!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!

I'm just kidding on the not keeping raw files part. I don't keep ALL of my raw files. they eat up space and space cost $$$$$$$.

lol, here I will do you one better, I will use one of my 7D ISO 3200 shots against myself for not keeping all my raws.

I had a better one somewhere of a fight where the guy's face is all deformed as the punch is landed, I will have to dig that up.

Absolutely! The X100 will EAT the 7D and POOP undigested 7D parts on other 7Ds (in terms of noise control and Image quality). LOL. I'm just joking. HAHAHAH! But we will see. PLEASE DON'T CALL ME OUT ON THIS! I AM JUST JOKING CALM DOWN!

I have another 7D image for this comment...

I will say the x100 files at absolutely amazing if you look at it as a hybrid point and shoot.

I will say my 1dmk3 w/35L files do NOT look as good as the x100 files with no flash available light photography. ISO 2500 the x100 makes the 1dmk3 look like an introductory dslr if your taking non moving subjects. I am being very serious. My 1dmk3's AWB created a yellow cast hue while the x100 landed the shot almost perfect. Aperture priority the x100 selected the appropriate ISO. My 1dmk3 required me to change my EC and even that it was not as good as a simple stupid push of a shutter button of the x100. I am blown away how the fuji lands the shot. The metering is crazy consistent. The tonality is superior to the 1dmk3.

IN good light my 1dmk3 is acceptable at ISO 3200. Put that same settings in demanding lower light the 1dmk3 horribly fails. The x100 ISO 3200 is without a doubt superior to the 1dmk3.

Teamspeed, your hockey photo isn't a good comparison since the x100 is limited to 1 focal length. I bet in the same lighting condition the x100 will be substantially better at ISO 3200.....seriously!! I still cant accept how amazing the ISO performance is especially jpgs from a hybrid. The NR seems to be quite acceptable sooc at high ISO's. I know as a 1dmk3 owner that the little fuji is a massive jump in overall IQ and high ISO performance.

IMO the 7D is no match to the x100 if you analyse high ISO pics from the 7d. If you've never used an x100 you's seriously agree.

No worries at all. I realize that everyone on here has different requirements, wants, needs, likes, dislikes, budgets, preferences, and goals than the next guy. What appeals to, and works, for me may leave others scratching their heads. I see that as a good thing, the diversity creates a lot of opportunities for discussion and learning.

None that I know of and I doubt this one will. Basing ISO performance on sample images doesn't give me any confidence with some of the heavy PP possible now. I've been hearing about fantastic new P&S cameras for ten years since I went digital and have yet to see one. This would be as improbably as a 35mm film or digital sized sensor 'killing' a MF body.

Why is it hard to believe that a camera with an APS-C sized sensor that has fewer MP and newer vintage than a 7D with a fixed FL prime lens could do better at high ISO's than an APS-C DSLR? Ridiculous IMO to lump this in with small sensor, zoom lens P&S cameras.

What have people been raving about? The g12, s95?! X1? GXR? LOL. those are no DSLR killers. Those EVIL cameras are NO alternatives as well. Have you ever tried an EVF. OH MAN. it makes me want to throw up into the EVF itself.

It definitely is an interesting camera. It's perfect for it's intended market - street/travel/event/candid shooters. Definitely not birding or sports.

Here's some sample shots:

That's it?! That's all?! And not a single apples vs. oranges comment. Interesting. I guess we'll have to wait for the 7D to arrive. :D
