A while back during a studio shoot I was introduced to the x-rite colorchecker passport. After that shoot I ran the software and built a profile for my camera in those conditions.

I know you need to shoot the colorchecker every time the lighting conditions change but what if the conditions are very similar.

Let me be more specific, if I create a camera profile for a sunny day at the beach, do I need one for a sunny day in grand canyon for example?

Thanks
R.

You only need to re-do the profile if it's totally necessary to have the colours exactly correct. I use a dula-illumination profile for just about everything.

But don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Create a standard, dual-illumination profile and compare the results of applying that to the results from applying a custom profile made on the day of shooting. I'll bet that, after a week or two, you'll decide that it's more hassle than it's worth.
