Here's a good one:

I sold my EF 75-300mm IS USM on eBay a few days ago. I listed it at an honest $300.00 with no reserve. (That means I would have sold it for the $300.00 if no one bid higher.) Those nit wits bid it up all the way to $513.00 plus $12.00 shipping! New ones are selling for a LOT less than that.

The world's first interchangeable lens with a built-in image Stabilizer (IS), the new Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens - designed exclusively for Canon ...

The buyer paid me (PayPal) and I shipped the lens the next day. Now, I get the following email from the buyer:

"I'm truly dissapointed in the lens I purchased from you. Serial No. 95202489 is anything but a new lens that you purchased recently according to your statement on eBay. If this is true, you have taken this lens around the world. It is truly showing its wear. True, no nicks scratches, dings, or lens damage, but the lens seems foggy, and the extension to get a longer aspect is extremely loose. I'm not sure how to handle this, but I ask you to accept a return less cost of shipping. I'm truly unhappy with my purchase."

Yeah, right! The guy obviously decided to check on the prices AFTER he bid on my sale. Now he's squirming around saying that he's getting a "professional photo studio" to tell me and eBay that the lens is defective. What a heap of rubbish. I wish people would grow up and assume responsibility for their own actions. Faint hope, I know.

George, Here is my .02 cents. I have worked hard to get 150+ 100% positive feedbacks. When I sell used items I always give a return time on the item so that if they feel the items was mis represented, which I am not saying that you did, they can return it freight prepaid and I give a refund less original shipping. If you do not care that this guys might post negative feedback then I would do nothing. If you value your feedback. Let him return it, refund him less original shipping charges. Then go to Ebay and get all of your fees back using the appropriate means. Then relist and sell it again. Once again this is just my view, I value my feedback so I would do the latter.

Verizon6000, I appreciate your comments. However, I can't do what you suggest. The lens is a valuable item, and I don't think I could justify selling it a second time on eBay without disclosing that it had come back as "defective" on a prior sale. And, that would just about kill its value. Anyone could look back on eBay and see that I had previously sold an identical item.

Let me make it clear on this forum. There was NOTHING wrong with the lens when I shipped it. Unfortunately, buyer's remorse leads some people to claim anything.

What I have offered is to send the lens back to Canon USA under my warranty and have it "fixed," without agreeing that there is anything wrong with it in the first place. I will do that, but actually I made that offer just to call this joker's bluff. I'm sure he too knows there's nothing wrong with the lens.

Well i had my first ebay experience end in dissapointment. I was bidding on a canon 50mm 1.4 and won the bid. The guy turned around after and said that the price was too low and that he should've had a reserve price listed but there wasn't. He happily refunded me right away which i am thankful for, but i'm upset because i lost out on a good lens and i could've bid on the same lens from another member. He should've made sure his info was accurate before i wasted my time...at the time there were 3 lenses i could've gotten at roughly the same price but now they've already been sold.

Oh well....i guess i'll wait and enjoy my 85mm 1.8:)

File a complaint with ebay....If they have others they can get suspended for this sort of thing.

I imagine that the text is your Ebay ad?... I didn't see where you stated it was used. Anyway the buyer should have asked if it was new or used and if there was a return policy. I have had a few dissappointments with sellars on Ebay with motorcycle and scuba equipment and also found some strange buyers of stuff I have had for sale.

I think you are right in that he has buyers remorse. I was looking for a 2nd windshield for my motorcycle and followed the auctions for about 3 months before finally getting one for a good price. The others were all bid within $25 dollars of getting a new one at a dealer. I have seen the same phenomena for scuba equipment.

When I see something on ebay, and I don't see a condition, I safely assume that it's in "used" condition.

Yeah, definitely file a complaint. eBay is really good at taking care of stuff like this.

Well, you did get more than a new one would cost. I will have to assume that plays into the not wanting to refund also. If you don't care if he post negative feedback, or the fact that he/she might have made a mistake, then let it be. The fact that the person is supposedly using a made up excuse doesn't help either. $513 is not expensive as far as lenses are concerned, so if you relisted, it would sell. Take a look at what the other EF 75-300 are selling for. Yep they are selling, but for nowhere near the amount that you were paid. There are going to be those that disagree, especially looking at the posts above, but $525 for a lense that cost $439 brand new(B&H), and especially a lens that is not known for GREAT quality. Yes you are in the right, but does that make it really right. I just don't see you relisting it and disclosing that it was returned "defective", since you said that it isn't defective, btw that lens will never "hold" its value. What's up with rubbing in the fact that it is only $395 new. OH! you wanted everyone to see all the profit you made on the sale. Moral decisions, hummmm.

i had a guy buy a speed light from me for 30 bucks less than i bought it for... and i never used it! I simply forgot to add a reserve price to my listing, I told him, "its your lucky day" and sold it to him for thr winning price. my mistake, what am i going to do? make this guy pay for my stupidity?? I learned a lesson and figure it was a sign from the e-bay gods!

Seems you may have a problem with your description:The world's first interchangeable lens with a built-in image Stabilizer (IS), the new Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens - designed exclusively for Canon ...
The buyer is apparently claiming he was led to believe the lens was new...
