I know this has been talked about on here, but the search function isn't returning anything.

I sold my 7D to a guy on FM last night. We had some brief communications and he sent me the money Paypal gift. Paypal account name matches his name and is verified. Not asking me to send the package anywhere funky. No red flags from Paypal about anything being funny.

Package will be shipped UPS and will require a signature (b/c it will be insured as high value and I will require it, which he knew about).

I know you have to more concerned when buying but how do you verify a buyer when selling or do you have little concern?

You've already got your money, so I don't see any need for concern. Everyone has to start somewhere!

Looks like all the bases are covered, what is the concern about?

I'd only be worried if I was buying from a zero feedback seller. Looks like the buyer already sent you the money, so it doesn't seem like there are any issues.

No concern, just get nervous with a new buyer on a somewhat sizeable purchase. I guess he sent payment via gift, so really, the concern would be his. Don't really see where this could go bad for me, but just wanted to see what you guys do.

yeah, the buyer should be the one worried here...sending someone ~$1.5k via PP Gift would have certainly affected my sleep :)

Just if he gives paypal a call and tell them that it was unauthorized then you may have all sorts of problems!

That's what I wanted to know. I keep all PM communications on things until it is delivered as well the receipt for shipping. Normally, I don't require a signature but this one I am, simply because he has no feedback. I think I'll hang on to these PMs and backup a little longer.

Paypal will never be out $0.01. If somehow he convinces someone the transaction was unauthorized and gets his money back, you better believe paypal will send you to collections.

Believe me Paypal will not take ANY evidence that you offer and do what they like. I have sold stuff to people with zero feedback and zero post - I think what is important is that you should be comfortable after talking to him/her.

Yeah, this underscores the ability to keep records of everything--trust but verify =p. For big transactions, anyway. Obviously for stuff under $100, time > hassle. For big items, label and keep your delivery confirmation receipts, keep all e-mails, etc. If a buyer/seller ever tries to screw you and then paypal tries to steal back the money (but can't) and sends you to collections, simply send the collections people a copy of everything and state that you don't owe the money, won't pay them anything, and they'll need to sue to try to get it. If you really are clearly in the right, it will likely get dropped (and you'd win a suit easily if it came to that, paypal's EULA be damned). They can still screw your credit, though, which is depressing.

Seems everyone is trying to scare you. There is no more risk involved with a zero feedback buyer than someone with sterling feedback. I had an Ebay buyer with excellent feedback try to scam me last summer on a $1600 sale. By remaining calm and making sure to clearly communicate via telephone, Paypal sided with me.

I recently sold to someone on FM with no posts or feedback. I asked for a phone number and gave a call. With a transaction the size of a 7d, do not settle for brief communication. Make sure you communicate until you feel comfortable.

At this point.. you need to get it shipped as soon as possible. Any hesitation should have been dealt with BEFORE you accepted payment. Now that it has been paid in full, your one responsibility is to get the package to him via whatever means was agreed upon.

Buyer and seller should never be afraid to communicate with each other.
If either refuses to communicate or balks at providing personal info.
forget the transaction. Making anonymous $$ transactions is BS.
