It's been a wonderful day here so after school my son and I went to the park and I snapped a couple of frames...was reasonably happy with the way this one turned out. I wish I could have waited for softer light later in the day but you can't have it all :)

C&C always welcome.

For me, the DOF is too shallow. I dont like how even his hair and left shoulder are out of focus. Also, the way his neckline blends with the background is weird. I think stopping down a bit would provide both a sharper image in general as well as a more pleasing portrait.

However, the kid is ridiculously cute!

and for me, I'm a sucker for this type of DOF so I love it....indeed he is gorgeous! Tho I agree with the neckline looks a tinybit odd BUT I didnt even notice until JakAHearts pointed it out.

No the blur is as shot, none added in post.

I like the DOF, although I agree that the background around the neck area isn't ideal - although it bothers me less. I also didn't notice it until you pointed it out, so thank you...next time I'll hopefully spot it for myself!

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Perhaps, I should quickly add...I specifically went to take shallow DOF shots...hadn't used my 50mm 1.4 for a while and felt the urge!

Meh, I doubt anyone would have noticed. We always scrutinize pictures more than is ever needed. Did you sharpen that area of the photo? Maybe mask that area out on the sharpen layer and see if that helps? Either way, he looks like a model. :D

Thanks...yes I did my usual sharpening for a web size image but no general sharpening beyond the default ACR on converting from Raw.
