Looks like an error. The body only from Amazon is the same as the body with the 28-135. Even though its sold out so you can order it I am not sure they will give you have lens kit.

I'll know soon enough. A friend of mine sent this to me earlier after he bought it.

Now up to $1,899 from Amazon, and $2,019 to $2,099 from third party sellers. (Adorama has it for $1,899, B&H $1,999 but out of stock .)

So, a $450 lens with a $1,699 body for $1,699? I'm in! (It actually looks like it's tough to find a 7D in stock for much less than $1,800-$2,000.)

I placed the order at $1,699 with Amazon because they make it very simple to cancel backordered items before they are shipped. It still shows on my accounts page so it appears to be a valid order. If it was a pricing mistake, I'm sure I would have received immediate notice when they re-priced the kit.

This deal looked good because of the 28-135mm lens but after reading some reviews, I'm not that excited about the lens. The 28-135mm doesn't look any better than my Canon 18-200mm and has a far more limited focal range. (The Canon 18-200mm may not be L quality and isn't very fast, but it is pretty darn good for such a useful range.)

Anyway, my CLP 7D refurb ($1,176 with CA tax) is arriving tomorrow and I guess I'll have at least 14 days to decide whether the $1,699 Amazon package is a better deal.

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

if your 7d refurb is in (like new) condition with no marks and a low shutter count, i would definately keep the refurb and use the difference on accessories and/or a lens

its amazing how the whole japan disaster played a major effect on photography equipment prices.

That's kind of what I'm thinking, unless I can sell the 28-135mm lens for close to full price, in which case it would be $1,699 - $450 = $1,250. That's only $75 more for brand new instead of refurbished, which might help a few years from now if I decide to sell the 7D.

I picked up a refurb 7D from Canon and can't distinguish it from new.

As far as the 28-135, it gets bashed a lot but IME it is an excellent lens. The only issue I have with it is that it isn't wide enough on 1.6x bodies. I used it quite a bit on film and a 5D2 and it was a nice walkaround lens on 35mm film and FF.

Thanks, that's important information. $150-$200 difference in total cost for the 7D. I wish it was a lens I needed.

You will probably get somewhere between $230-$275 for the kit lens. So $1700-$250 = 1450 for the brand new 7d alone.

Refurb 7D = 1176
Refurb 7D + mint/used 17-40L = 1800
7D Kit = 1700
7D (after selling the kit lens) = 1450

would definately go any of the top 2 routes. i was a little nervous when i ordered my refurb 5D2 last month, but when i received it i was more than happy. there was not even a mark on it. It came with brand new accessorries and 107 actuations.

The post didn't mention the CLP. To me the CLP is a bit of a hassle, I just bought the refurb direct and used Mr. Rebates to offset most of the sales tax.

I just ordered a 7D from the Canon Loyalty Program. No hassle at all. I just told the rep I had heard about the program, had an old Powershot (didn't even say it was broken) and would like a 7D. She did ask for the serial number of the Powershot but then placed the order right away.

Edit: Yeah, the process of finding the old camera and getting it shipped off is a bit more work. But, based on some older conversations, I was expecting to have to come up with a story about how I had tried to repair my camera, why it still doesn't work, and why I need to replace an old Powershot with a 7D. Nothing along those lines happened. It wasn't any more difficult than placing a conventional order over the phone.
