Thanks to our retarded Congress, we may have a government shutdown starting this weekend. This means most or all National Parks will be closed.

This may mean skeleton crew of rangers enforcing the closure (kicking people out, issuing fines, etc) from what I understand.

You should probably call ahead to see what the status of the park is going to be if you are going!

Look at the news. Government shutdown includes National Parks.

Congress has not passed a budget for the current fiscal year. No budget == no money for salaries so "non-essential" government employees as well as a lot of government contractors are going to be getting an unplanned (and in some cases unpaid) vacation.

I guess if they have to cut national parks over education for instance, that's understandable but at the same time I bet Halliburton will be fine...

Sorry if I sound so ignorant but I'm trying to finish my PhD and find a job at the same time and it's taking up all my time... I don't even take pictures anymore :(

As far as I'm concerned, they can shut the whole damn gov't down and quit spending my hard earned money in such irresponsible ways. The longer it is shut down the better off we'll all be.

Haliburton is a private company that actually has to make responsible business decisions and employs people. What do they have to do with this?

Because they are (among others) doing exactly what you don't want them to do:
