artyman Sleepless in Hampshire More info | Apr 07, 2011 09:50 | #5 The 150-500 is just possibly a nats whisker better, but probably by no more than production line variations, so both pretty good. I keep wondering whether to change my 150-500 for the new 50-500 or a Canon 500 f4, but lose the zoom flexibility. Decisions decisions Art that takes you there. http://www.artyman.co.uk

Honestly it looks like the focus might be slightly different between the two, and that might be the cause of more differences than optical quality. Amazon needs to come back with it's xx% off of all sigma products deals, doesn't it? amanathia.zenfolio.com

Otherwise they seem to both do a good job and I looked seriously at both before I opted for the Canon 100-400 (primarily for re-sale value and perceived IQ improvement) but I seriously think I would have been happy with either of these two.

I still might return it and wait on the 120-300 os and see how it does with a 2xtc 1DX\ 5diii gripped \ tokina 12-24 f/4 /sigma 24-60 f2.8 \ \ sigma 120-300 OS \ sigma 50 f1.4 \ canon 500 f4 IS \ canon1.4 III tc \ canon 2xii tc \sigma 2x dg tc \ 580ex \ 2x 430ex flickr

So I sold it and went Canon. I had the OS freeze up, and sent it in for repair. They sent me a brand new one, and it was even softer than the original. Took decent shots, just not what I was after. Sold it this week. Canon 7D, Canon 30D, Canon 70-200mm f/[COLOR=black]4L USM, [COLOR=black]Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L USM
