looks like the 150-500 is better I have often thought about selling my 100-400 and get the 50-500 os for the reach but mt 100-400 is a good one

The 150-500 is just possibly a nats whisker better, but probably by no more than production line variations, so both pretty good. I keep wondering whether to change my 150-500 for the new 50-500 or a Canon 500 f4, but lose the zoom flexibility. Decisions decisions

Those all look pretty good really. Honestly it looks like the focus might be slightly different between the two, and that might be the cause of more differences than optical quality. Amazon needs to come back with it's xx% off of all sigma products deals, doesn't it? :)

Edit: I'm convinced that on full frame that the 50-500 range would be unbeatable.

Both lenses are very viable options as long as you are OK with the slowness of both lenses. Otherwise they seem to both do a good job and I looked seriously at both before I opted for the Canon 100-400 (primarily for re-sale value and perceived IQ improvement) but I seriously think I would have been happy with either of these two.

they're definitely slow lenses...i hadn't really thought about upgrading my body until i used my bigmos...I found myself using a lot higher ISO than I was used to, and could definitely see benefits from something like a 7D

thanks for the comparison shots Jay

You're welcome, yes my 5d2 makes it a lot faster lense like around 2 stops. the iso is great compared to the 40d. I still might return it and wait on the 120-300 os and see how it does with a 2xtc

I never liked how soft my 150-500 was at the long end. So I sold it and went Canon. I had the OS freeze up, and sent it in for repair. They sent me a brand new one, and it was even softer than the original. Took decent shots, just not what I was after. Sold it this week.
