I am going away next week on a little trip to the Caribbean Islands. I'm taking my 5D2,and cant quite decide on the lens. I really love my 16-35 definitely want to take that, but I made choice not to bring more than 2 lens with me on the trip. Im thinking maybe I should grab the 24-70 and 85 with me, not sure. I'm just curious if anyone that has gone before can suggest or recommend on what they think may work for me out of my gearlist.I will be down there for 7 days. I love landscapes and architectural photography when its personal work, however I don't mind doing a little people shots. Anyways, any advice or suggestions welcome. Thanks

I have been all thru the West Indies and the islands and i do suggest you bring the 16-35 but i would rent the 70-200 f2.8 MKII from LensRentals and bring a 1.4 TC along with a monopod that will close-up and fit in your suitcase.

Beautiful locations in the Caribbean if you do some research first and know exactly where to go within the islands interiors versus just hanging around the perimeter beaches.

BTW, exactly where in the Caribbean are you going ?

Regards & Have Fun ! ;)

with your gear list I would bring the 5D, 24-70, and the 70-200. Might even consider renting a 2X just in case there is something at the farter end you weant to shoot.

Wow. That's two for 70-200. A little unexpected.

It may not seem like a lot but two bodies is just a green signal for someone with itchy hands to go for a little property shopping spree. I have insurance but not particularly looking for filling paperwork :)

1st i didnt see it in your gear list, and 2nd the MKII version is not only sharper but it also excepts a 1.4 extender with virtually NO image degradation and still maintains excellent AF speed for what you will be shooting down there.

But your MKI version will do just fine and i only mentioned the 16-35 to give you a little lighter package versus the brick. Plus still bring a monopod for your 70-200/f2.8

Regards, & Have Fun ! ;)

Definitely the 70-200. If you had the 24-105 I'd suggest that but the 70-200 will work just as well.

I primarily mentioned my choices since i have been down to the islands 4 times since 1996 and these options worked the best for me.

What are the "hot" spots at the islands you've gone to, not the typical BS tourist money milikin locations ?
