ID Help

When I first saw this bird in the shadows, the crest made me think of crested flycatcher. I never saw it from the front, but it doesn't seem to match anything in my guide book. I'm sure it's a simple ID for the real birders here. Shot in Abilene, TX.

Looks to me like it could be a Lark Bunting, male, non breeding... pretty little guy.

I concur with Dave. I saw a group of Lark Buntings (non breeding) years ago near Abilene and haven't seen any since.

If you fellows say it, I'll go along. My book shows no crest at all on the lark bunting. Maybe a juvie?
