Part 3 -- that elemental and elementary part of an eagle's life: fishing.

Eagles basically eat fish. ("Basically" because they will also eat other birds and, frankly, anything else they can lay a talon on. They're perfectly happy to be scavengers.)

And they are just amazing to watch as they fish:

First, from their flight path, they make a dramatic turn, called a break.

Then they swoop down at amazing speeds, every feather rippling in the air, with an actual "swoooosh" sound.

They aim their talons where they plan on grabbing the fish.

Sometimes they'll drag a talon in the water;

Sometimes they'll drag their tail feathers.

They make the snag...

Then they snap their wings forward.

The splash can be impressive.

Holy moly! Amazing captures...they are awe-inspiring. The "break" picture is incredible, so beautiful/graceful.

Northontguy is right: the story really adds to the experience, because it really is an experience looking at these series of incredible shots, Judy... Another stunning sequence with the first being off the scale completely. What a treat your photographs are, Judy. Thank you.

What a great series, Judy. You missed your calling.

Thanks, Stan, but if it was my "calling," it'd be work instead of play!
