How many did you find? If there is just a handful that's normal, you can clean that up in post processing.

That's very normal, my 7D has 3 red hot spots and I'm totally ok with it. You can try running Dust Delete data option and see if that helps. I don't bother because it's easy enough to fix.

Oh BTW you may only see them in long exposures like you had tonight. That's when I see them the most.

I'd say for $1500 its not ok with me especially when you shoot video it shows way more. My came with a clump of hot pixels and amazon overnighted me a new perfect one. But if you've had your for a while then that's a different story. Does it show a lot in video?

It's not normal. If I saw red spots on my images i would become very abnormal myself and run back to the shop where I bought the 7D and demand with red face and purple neck an exchange for a new one. Since I've had my camera for almost two years now, they might be reluctant to give me a new one, but I would negotiate a fair price to exchange for a new one and they can send the one with red spots back to wherever without me worrying about it. This is why I always recommend that a good piece of equipment should be bought from a trusted dealer who is known to bend over backward to keep customers happy.

Do the "dots" appear in exactly the same place every time? Or are they more random?

If in exactly the same place, it's easy to correct in Lightroom. You can retouch one image, then apply the identical correction to all the images in the batch, with just a couple clicks.

But, OTOH, if they are always in the same place, those are some bad pixels and I might be on the phone to Canon if the camera is realtively new and it shows up in anything other than really long exposures.
