It all depends really. That pier shot will be pretty much even but, more toward the shadow side. I try to expose to the right as much as possible. You also have to know that the histogram isn't accurate. It's approximate. :)

ok so I am correct that it comes with experience  I should try and study histograms of my shot...maybe all of them touches right

I like to shoot bright most of the time and then tone them down in PP

it is for what it is

its upscale chinese cuisine and its a chain

ahhh I would assume a meal would cost somewhere between $20-40 for a single person?

Depends on a meal

Be roughly $20 if you dont drink alcohol id imagine, their bar is a bit more high end so it has a slightly higher price tag, So my drinks there were about $14...

They have a $40 dinner for two that includes appetizer, 2 entress, soup and dessert though...Which isnt bad value :)

When we do take out, my mother and i manage to stay under $50 usually and generally have 2-3 meals out of what we get

ebay about 7-8 years ago, paid a whopping $25 for it, I just bought Thirteenth Step on Vinyl a few days ago :)

Came with the Shure cartridge on it now...I havnt changed it since

The bad? The belt is going and its not playing at quite 33 1/3 anymore...getting a new belt is probubly not possible :(

Well, there are companies that still make belt drive turntables. Although, I'm a big fan of the Technics MK 1200. I still have one and it's sitting in the closet right now! I really need to dust it off and play some vinyl. Nothing like that sound of analog.

You already know what it takes to make a good exposure but, if it's for a single shot, I find it difficult to recover blown highlights.

Tell me about it, this was my first time listening to Vinyl on the SC-27 too, sounded fantastic on my Sennheiser HD280 cans

I want to find myself a nice Direct Drive table, the Technics ones are an option obviously (They're VERY good after all)

This is true. Plus, you can always order parts from them. Including a belt drive. :)

Lol, Yeah, My turntable i theorize is 70s vintage, its OLD and it was made for Radio Shack's house brand...

The good news is now the end stop works right...it used to careen out of control towards the label at the end of the record...

QUOTED IMAGE

yes... this looks really sexy Julian haha :D

I want the Q10 but would get the Q3T if budget is a little tight by the time I really badly want one :D I am just looking at options....

I really like the Gitzo 1541LS but at double the price

options for my budget are
Feisol 3442
Manfrotto 055CXPro3

I like the Feisol more though...

Steven, I of course know nothing about Nikons, so I'll ask -- to they along with Canon, display "blinkies" warning of clippings, like of highlights?

I'm asking because histograms can give you a "big picture" but sometimes you can miss the "little things" -- like in Julian's picture that whitewater may or may not have some highlight clipping that may or may not be evident in the histogram. The blinkies can alert you and then you decide whether it matters or not (some of those white water highlights may in fact not be important to retain).

So, the histogram is one "tool" that can be useful, and then other tools come into play as well.
