The Feisol brand looks good. :)

at 54" max height without the center column... I think its good for me.. I am about 5'10".

and at $300 its half the price of the Gitzo :lol:

btw, I don't find the RAL (Anti rotation thing) for $90 worth it. what's your thoughts?

Steven, I of course know nothing about Nikons, so I'll ask -- to they along with Canon, display "blinkies" warning of clippings, like of highlights?

I'm asking because histograms can give you a "big picture" but sometimes you can miss the "little things" -- like in Julian's picture that whitewater may or may not have some highlight clipping that may or may not be evident in the histogram. The blinkies can alert you and then you decide whether it matters or not (some of those white water highlights may in fact not be important to retain).

So, the histogram is one "tool" that can be useful, and then other tools come into play as well.

hmm you mean to say something like those showing in LR3?

let me check

RAL? Is that what they use on Feisol?

they call it Rapid Action Legs (RAL)

http://reallybigcameras.com …sol%20Rapid%20Tripods.htm (external link)

The Rapid models with the RAL anti-rotation feature are faster and easier to operate. The biggest advantage of the RAL feature is rapid, one-handed operation of the twist lock collars without the possibility of leg rotation. This makes it possible to simultaneously unlock all the collars on a single leg by grabbing them all together in one hand and unlocking them all with a single quick, half-turn motion. This same one-handed operation is also possible when locking the collapsed legs for transport of the tripod. Thanks to RAL, it is no longer necessary to unlock or lock the collars one at a time when deploying or collapsing the Feisol Rapid tripods.

on the 3442...its worth an additional $90 hehe

Yeah, with Canons you can turn those alerts on and off. They can come in handy if you are exposing close to "the edge" but want to know if you are going too far.

ok I just checked and I can turn on Highlight, AF Point, RGB colors and or histogram view..

when I choose Highlight, it will blink BLACK on everything that is overexposed... but somehow no blink for underexposed objects.. in LR3 it will blink red for over and Blue for under right?

:D

Thanks for bringing this up though...I like the Highlight blinking hehe I think this is what I need more than the histogram
