Here is a link i found to most cloudy locations. I know the show was only looking at major cities and not smaller ones.

http://www.weathertoday.net/weatherfacts/cloudy_desc.php (external link)

Seattle gets around 226 cloudy days a year. So depressing!

Im not surprised that upstate ny cities are all over 200 days as well. It was always cloudy in Syracuse!

Detroit is only cloudy for 50% of the year.

Your right but im just telling you what i remember from the show ;) Of that list of cities over 500,00 that would put Detroit as the 4th most cloudy behind Seattle, Portland, and Columbus. So not too far off. Plus 50% is a lot! In Syracuse it was basically 1/3rd of the time which explains why i have only 1 picture of the sun out for the 4 years i went to college there since its only out for about 2.5 months when class is not in session

Well when winter lasts from October to March, that's about 6 months of the year.

Yup but winter is not the same every where.

True. But their weather sucks because it never changes.

Ok. I converted this image to mono to give it a classic look. Shot with the Zeiss 35 @ f4.8.

Cloudy days? Probably about the same as Detroit. I'm only an hour north of Detroit.

Interesting subject. How about a color version. Only if it had a lot of rust to contrast against the green in the trees.
