This, to me has some characteristics of both a Purple Finch and House Finch.
Anyone?

Apr 09, 2011 23:00 | #9 If you look at the range of the House Finch, it's highly unlikely that it was in La. if that's where the photo was taken. HF's range goes to about mid-Texas. The Purple Finch's range is just about all the U.S. I'd stand by the first ID. Regarding the markings, if the subject is not in full plumage, that further points toward the PF vs. HF. The HF in full plumage is incomplete around the eye and down the back. JMHO.
