What I want i new versions of DPP:

*64-bit.
*GPU acceleration. Viewing image at high quality takes to long time, and GPU acceleration would also speed up the batch process.
*Tonemapping more like Photomatix to save highlights and shadows in the same picture.
*Everything from DPP++ :D

I really like the latest version.

HDR is not really something I can see them adding to a basic workflow app like this, but I agree about 64 bit and GPU boost.

I'd like to see the shadow/highlight controls improved. The images tend to wash out after anything more than a slight adjustment. The controls in PS handle this common adjustment much better.

Install a 32/64-bit codec along with DPP so that Windows can view the RAWs directly from Windows Explorer, Photo Viewer/Gallery, etc.

Seeing as how ardfry's CR2 codec is less than 1 mb in size, it really should be a very very simple thing to add.

It does install a RAW Codec, but only on 32 bit systems. Kinda lame to not have it for x64

I would like a 64 bit version too; but I don't think Canon pays any attention to these threads.

Heh! Probably not much. But, they do add improvements occasionally. The addition of the rotate/horizon straighten tool was a real game-changer, and giving the choice for USM is kinda nice.

Maybe the thread OP is a spy for Canon:)! But, maybe the OP could collect all the accumulated suggestions, boil them down to a list, and forward it to DPP support "On behalf of your dedicated Canon users on POTN" -- I bet somebody there knows that POTN exists:)!

The North American representative for Canon, Chuck Westphal, seems to periodically show up on this forum:

answering questions. He is probably the best pipeline to the people in Tokyo.

I have seen several responses from Canon people have received that stated very clearly that Canon would not ship a 64-bit RAW Codec. Nikon also does not supply a 64-bit Codec for their RAW files. I don't think either company company sees this as core, nor do they want to have to support Codecs on 64-bit OSs.

By now all of their power users have been on 64-bit WIndows for quite sometime. since this would be the most important group to support, I think it is clear we will never see a 64-bit RAW Codec ship from Canon or Nikon.

Maybe when you can no longer walk into a store like Best Buy and pick up a cheap 32 bit laptop they'll make the move.

Well, I wouldn't be so cut and dry -- companies work behind-the scenes without making public annoncements.

But, they still have to prioritize, and putting out free software is probably not on the top of the list. Their software collection does, in fact, work very well under Win 64 bit, just isn't quite optimized and the codec doesn't work...OK, version 5.0, anyone?

Not HDR, but better shadow/highlights, like Photomatix:

I can see the cloud in the left picture.

I have FastPictureViewerWICCodecPack.msi from the time it was free. Still works with my 7D´s images.

Stores here frequently use the sales gimmick of giving a "present" with a purchase. Buy a refrigerator and you get a "free" toaster. Same thing with DPP. TANSTAAFL!
