Well it has been a long time since I put this on POTN. I could not find it here so either if fell off the end of the earth, or I suck a searching. ;-)a Let me introduce you to CanonNumFix (external link) (125k). When you run the program, it displays the following.

This program will create folders and empty image files that match the layout for most canon digital cameras. By setting your camera to automatic reset and formatting a fresh flash card, you should be able to simulate a card with a determined number of pictures and thereby trick the camera into believing it has taken that determined number of pictures. Once you have run this program you can set the camera back to continuous numbering.

Hope its of use to you. Wait till you see the date on it. Sorry this is for the PC only. I just tried it out on Window 7 64bit and it still works, even across the network. Enjoy.

Megapixels and high ISO are a digital photographers heroin. Once you have a little, you just want more and more. It doesn't stop until your bank account is run dry.

Lets say you like to keep your camera numbers continuously counting. But then you set it to reset. Now your count is out of sync with what you would like. If you know what you want it to be. This utility can fill the card with files up to what you want. Set your camera to continuous and with these files your camera will notice the files names and take the number after the last file. Hope this helps.

My 60D will start your number sequence based in the highest number of a file in the camera regardless of how many it has shot. For example, I wanted it to start at 5000 since I had other canon photos already on my PC, so I took a single shot, put the card in my card reader and changed the number on the file to 5000, and the camera named the next one 5001. Not hard and doesn't require an app or cycling the shutter thousands of times.

Cameras: 7D2, S100
Lenses: 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, 18-135 STM, 24-70 f/4L IS USM, 50 f/1.4 USM,70-300L IS USM
Other Stuff: 430 EX II, Luma Labs Loop 3, CamRanger

Yep, my 40D does that too. Can't think of the need to write an application to do that. And anyway - all my image files are renamed automatically (including an incrementing number) when downloading them to my PC - so this application is absolutely useless to me. The image name / number while still on the card is completely irrelevant - doesn't matter in the slightest..

A while ago, I had a discussion here with someone who had started off on the wrong foot, since he was totally dependent on the image file number to track his photos. He'll have to redo his strategy when he reaches 10000 images the first time. Anyway, it prooves that there are people who do care.

I belong to those who don't.

Why would someone have to cycle the shutter thousands of times?

Huh, well I cant say that I have ever reset my file counter, but Im pretty sure renaming the last image file taken would be how id handle that situation should it ever come up.

An interesting idea though.

David,

Can this utility reset a camera to a specific count? For instance if my 50D had 2510 counts on it and then I used a card from my 30D that had 7500 which confused the 50D to brings its count up to 7500, can I bring the 50D back to its 2510 count with the utility?

Yes you can. Follow the instructions.

The idea is as everyone says. Reset mode will make it count starting from zero. Then continuous will see the last number (if its in the correct folder order) and continue on from there.

You can do the same thing with EOS Utility. I did it to give all my files a 5 digit number so I'm good untill 99,999
