There is a small airport nearby my house and went out today to take some plane pictures. This was my second try at taking plane photos, and wanted to mainly concentrate on getting the propeller in movement... I completely froze the propellers on my first try and thought they looked ugly that way. Are these two pictures any decent? Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

1/250 is good. Keep working on bringing that shutter speed down. Try 1/200 and 1/160 next. These are nice and sharp though.

I like #1. With the 200 IS you might have tried some with a slower shutter speed. Did you?

For the first plane, you could get a full disc (or very nearly) with around 1/125s. Second one you'd need a lot slower for full disc.

Ok, thanks. I'll try slower shutter speed next time. I guess that would make it harder for me to get sharp shots, so probably need to practice more... :)

Don't feel bad when you have to throw some away. We all do. ;)
There are some good links in this: First shoot with moving cars need advice.

what you have looks good! 1/250 or 1/200 is just fine for small props and most turboprop aircraft.

when you get into doing helicopters you have to dip even lower because of the slower rpms of the rotors.

since you have IS though, might as well practice with as slow as you can though. ;)
