Not sure if everyone else already knew this, but it's news to me. It looks like Elinchrom has updated the housing for the Skyport RX Transceiver unit to match the styling of the recently updated Skyport SPEED Transmitter and Universal Receiver. It sports a slightly better build quality and the new updated and improved style switch for the side switch.

No, for those wondering, its not designated SPEED, but with a 40D I was able to get up to 1/320 with only a little black band showing using a Skyport SPEED Transmitter in standard mode. 1/250 was no problem. Also noteworthy, putting the transmitter in SPEED mode causes it to no longer communicate with the Skyport RX unit. It will not fire.

Here are some pics comparing the two:

Sweet! I like that more than the small switch.

Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

Interesting....I ordered one more to go with my new (third) ranger RX speed AS, so I wonder if I got the new one. It's currently sitting in my home still sealed up, waiting for me to return home from my shoot in Minneapolis.

When/where did you order yours? I bought mine from B&H on April 5th.

Why use 1/320 when the Flash X-Sync of the camera is 1/250 sec?

Why not? :P Shoot a bit wider and crop the black bar. Sometimes you just need the faster shutter speed (to kill more ambient light).

The question was given that the camera have a flash x-sync 1/250, if you use a faster shutter speed you always obtain a black band.
No matter how good is the trigger, this thing don't change.
ELS Transceiver RX (external link)
While if you like use a different radio-trigger that can be used even as Remote Camera Trigger is ok use more fast setting (if you don't need using flash) but on that last case don't exist wireless solutions capable of handling the max shutter/speed of the camera.

Yes, the black band is the limitation of the focal plane shutter, not the trigger. However you can shoot faster than the x-sync (there is nothing to prevent it). The triggers are capable of shooting much much faster than 1/250.

Leaf shutters don't suffer from black band, they can sync flash even at 1/400 or higher with clean frame. Pocket Wizards claim they work up to 1/500 shutter speed with leaf shutters or trigger cameras up to 12 fps, so there is radio riggers capable of handling the speeds of modern cameras. :)

Also, you can use a PW TT1 between your camera's hotshoe and the Skyport.
That's what I do and I can currently get a clean 1/320 using the D700, a PW Mini TT1 and an Elinchrom Skyport Speed (in Speed mode) on top of the TT1, triggering the Quadra (non-RX).
Have not experimented with the new beta firmware.

Max Shutter: 1/4000 sec (canon 300d ...)
Also these products used a trick for overcame the flash sync that have some drawbacks.

I ordered about a week ago from amazon and it was the transmitter with two RX units SPEED kit.

Yeah, and your point? 1/4000 is limitation of the 300D, other cameras have 1/8000 (some even 1/16000, like 1Dmk1 which also has 1/500 sync speed). It has nothing to do with the flash sync. All I was saying is that there are ways to sync flash faster than the 1/250 or so. There are ways to work around the limitation of the focal plane shutter, some are advance and expensive like the Pocket Wizards, some are dirty cheap like cropping the black bar out.
