I'm going to Hawaii with some family after final exams..
I usually shoot with two full frame bodies, 35L and 85mm 1.8.
But i obviously don't want to bring both bodies, and i really don't want to change lenses n be so concerned while on vacation. Will the 35L be enough?
I would imagine most of my shots will be landscape and scenery.

EDIT: I ended up going to Maui with just my 35L+5D2 and an S95. Bad idea i know.. but it worked out fine for me. I got lots of shots i was happy with. I missed my 85mm sometimes, but i managed to deal with it and work around it. The S95 was useful if i needed some length or just to have with him if i didnt feel like bringing my 5D2.

Here's a thread with some images.

There are some pretty cool plants in hawaii..

Will the 35l on a ff body allow you to some macro work still? Do you even do macro work?

Bring all your gear. You're going to Hawaii. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

I don't think 35L on ff is wide enough for landscape. You might want to invest on wide angle lens such as 17-40 or 16-35.

Been there and numerous islands in the West Indies and the 35L is fine for the short end but i would highly suggest renting the 70-200 f2.8 MKII unless you already own it, and pack a telescopic monopod along in your baggage.

Great scenery close & far !

Regards. ;)

I would rather take a good point-n-shoot camera on a trip like that rather than so severely limit photography options with just a single lens of any focal length.

The 85/1.8 won't take a lot of space - take it with you - if you don't use it, so be it, but if you need it, it's there.

I was thinking this exact thing too.
An excuse to pick up an s95! perfect!

I thought about it, i usually find myself with just a 5D2+35L when walking around, so i think i'll be fine. They will mostly be vacation pictures so it won't kill me to have a tele with me. I'll just have to get creative.

I just came back from vacation (Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Turkey) and I have to say I appreciated having all my lenses with me even though some barely had use. Sucks hauling it around but I was happy to have the shot then to miss it.
