Although I use Lightroom extensively, I have just installed Canon's Zoombrowser EX - purely in order to look at the focus point of some of my shots. I've hit a snag though. I convert all my RAW files to DNG and it seems that Zoombrowser doesn't recognise DNGs. For instance, if I open a folder containing DNGs, the program tells me that there are no photos in it. Is this how it should be?

Yeah, Roy, Canon hasn't done much to make its software compatible even with tiffs and jpegs created with other apps like Photoshop. DNGs will be non-readable with the Canon software, so you have to go with the CR2s and jpegs created by DPP. Sorry mate!

That's a shame. I don't use DPP and all my shots are imported as DNGs, so it looks as though I won't be able to use the focus point facility. Ah well! Thanks for the reply anyway Tony.

Yeah, Roy, DPP is still mostly limited to Adobe. Shame to say, but it's only being very slowly adapted, and Canon is not even adapting to a lot of tiff/jpeg conversions. But, if you can get the Raw files in there, you can get those focus points. I've heard that there is at least one other third party app that can as well, but I'm dubious that they can do it with DNG...

Most recent model cameras will show focus point in the LCD review, so before you reformat the card use the camera, if yours has this feature.
