Any NCIS: Los Angeles fans out there notice that they've been using a lot of Canon gear lately? I specifically noticed them using 7D(s) and some monster white lenses that I can't identify. I thought that was kind of cool. What I thought was cheezy, was the simulated "through the viewfinder" view that they put on the screen. It wasn't even close to what an actual view looks like. Funny part is usually they do stuff like that to make it look cooler and up the wow factor. Except here, it didn't, it just looked different. Oh, well.

Anyone know of other hit shows that use Canon gear?

Gear: 5DIII; 6D; Canon 16-35 f/4L; Canon 24-70II f/2.8L, Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 VC; Sigma 35mm f/1.4A; Sigma 105mm f/2.8 Macro; Phottix Mitros+;580exii; Metz AF 50-1

Interesting -- I've seen very little of NCIS LA -- maybe one episode and then at least one where they "overlap" with the "regular" show, so no, never noticed. On "regular" NCIS when I've seen them taking photos I try to determine what they are shooting with but can't make out the logo. Meaning, of course, that Canon hasn't been shelling out the big bucks to them in the way that Nikon has always done for CSI.

From what you are saying, it sounds like Canon is paying -- I don't know of any other show that uses them that way, but I'm not all-seeing!

It's funny because laptop makers are always getting their brand/logos out there, at least you see a lot of HP, Apple and Sony stuff.

It's probably an old news to most, but they used 5DII to film the last season finale of House, M.D.

The documentary "Take That: Look Back, Don’t Stare" from ITV follows the reunion of Robbie Williams and his former friends from Take That. Shot during nov.2009 - nov.2010. I immediately noticed that it was not shot with the usual digibeta where everything is pinsharp, in focus. Turned out the whole documentary was made using 5D´s.

Nikon pays the big bucks for name recognition.

I was watching a soccer game the other day and saw a Canon w/ a big white lens. Does that count? ;):D

Leverage also uses Canon gear, but with the brand blacked out. You can tell it's a Canon, though. The blonde on the show (external link) is actually a photographer before she became an actress.

One thing that I've wondered when it comes to actual crime scene photography and maybe someone reading this might know:

I'd think that the people doing this photography would automatically use a hotshoe flash when flash is at all called for as opposed to using the pop-up flashes, due to the power and the control of the hotshoe flashes.

But, I noticed that these Nikon shooters use the pop-up at least as often as not.

Now, I know that Nikon built-in flashes have a great reputation, but for a profession as seriously critical as crime scene photography wouldn't even loyal Nikon shooters want the better hotshoe gear?

So, my question is as to whether anyone actually is directly involved in or familiar with the "real CSI" stuff and can answer as to whether this use of pop-up flash is "genuine"? If not, I would imagine that maybe Nikon specifies in their contract that a good portion of the flash photography be done with the pop-ups in order to make the photography depicted more "consumer-friendly"...

I do know that some agencies still use film because of how easy it is to alter a digital image.

Well, yeah, but of course that's a different deal -- I do know that Canon offers the "original data" thing, I'm not sure about Nikon.

Also i've seen them using the Nikon twinlights on several occasions

Keep in mind that while built in flash is "harsh" it usually isnt going to destroy details...

You may know that and I may know that, but there are those out there that may not know that. I was merely stating a fact. Sorry that it didn't fit along with the original thread.
