Did you line up the celestial pole?
How did you know how far to move the camera? I would love to be able to get images like this.
Might have to give it a crack with the new 60d =)

Fantastic shot btw, I love how crisp it is.

The video turned out great. Lots of stuff shooting/flying across the night sky.

I absolutely love shots of the Milky Way, hoping to finally give it a shot myself this summer.

Nope, didn't line it up with the Celestial Pole.....
I did a little research in knowing that the Milky Way would eventually come into the shot sometime during the night if I pointed my Camera North (This was during the Fall on the U.S. Continent). I set up the angle of view according with the tree line, whereby I would get some tree tops and mostly sky in my shot. So, in the end I lucked up and got some parts of the Milky Way into the final images (this is from the video). Regarding the actual picture that is posted. That I got the Galactic Center of the Milky Way in the shot at all was "PURE LUCK". This was on the second trip (6 months later) and I remembered reading that the Milky Way would rise in the South (This was during Spring on the U.S. Continent). So I pointed my camera South and framed the fence and tree tops in the shot..... and what you see is eventually what I got as the night passed. Now, I have an iPhone App called "Star Walk", and all you do is point your iPhone in any direction and it gives you a "Real Time" view of what the sky and stars look like..... Literally, the best .99cents I've ever spent!!!

Thanks for the HONEST response Mark lol =P sometimes the pure luck shots are simply the best.

Hope my luck is that good when I get a good night to give it a go.
Might have to look for that app also =)

Cheers again

Matt.
