Just as shot, AWB and everything. I thought it looked kinda cool.

IMAGE: http://www.itsanadventure.com/postimages/GreenMountains_61909.jpg

This is just an example of the color I found during my 14-hour foliage trip through northern Vermont.

Yeah, you're right - there's no foliage happening here...

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Nice shot! I'm sorry you didn't get to see much color, but it gives me hope that there will be some left when my mom comes to visit in a couple of weeks!

Very nice layering of the mountains. Looks like some of those high quality Chinese paintings from long ago.

Because of the warm September we experienced the foilage is about a week behind normal.
Was in upper New York state yesterday and did not find much in the way of colours.
Hoping next weekend is better.

Wow I have a picture almost identical to that. Vermont scenery is some of the most beautiful in the U.S.

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade. -Yeats

That is very nice.

I made a very similar picture lat weekend, but not in Vermont but in Lower Austria. I hope you do not mind if I post it here (if yes, I will delete it) but I think it is interesting because the landscape is comparable! Yes, I used plenty of saturation etc ;-)a

Andreas, that's amazing! That could be Vermont in a second. Your mountains have more details - Vermont mountains seem to be a little "smoother" and not so jagged. I love the details in this shot, and no, I don't mind you posting it here.

Thanks for the comments folks! Let's all hope for some color next weekend. And be on the lookout for a silver Crown Victoria with a madman at the wheel... :-)

Good shot of the mountains, Scott, if not the color you wanted.

Becca, you would probably think I'm totally crazy if you knew what I did before hitting the road... I research the heck out of an area, looking for anything worth shooting. I scour the library, the Internet, picture-books in the book store, I buy back-roads guides, and those "off the beaten path" books, and travel guides, books on waterfalls, maps listing covered bridges. I'll read/skim the books looking for possible shots. Then I'll find them on my mapping software, mark them, and print maps. When I travel I make notes on the maps noting other possible locations. And I pick up interesting pamphlets in those highway rest areas.

Today I just bought a GPS unit so I can pump in all the data. Now I'll be able to travel without getting lost, and I'll be able to look up anything in the area.

I even started a website: http://psma.itsanadventure.com/psma/index.html (external link), but found it to be too much work - I find way too many sites. I have over 400 locations in MA, NH and VT. If I could instantaneously mark every place I knew of I'd have at least 1,000. If I went through all my books I'd probably have 3,000 possible sites worthy of a photograph.

Yeah, I'm nuts.

Want a copy?
:-)

Scott, all that sounds so familiar. I keep paper and on-line files for almost every state and Canadian province. During our "down time" here in FL, I stay busy researching the places we plan to visit next by internet and library searches, not to mention travel magazines. It's wacko, but also a big part of the fun for me.

Yes, no doubt it fun, but don't you hate when a promising site falls through, especially after 3 hours of driving to get to it? That's one of the reasons I try to concentrate on an area, just to make sure I can hit 4 or 6 or 8 stops and hope at least one will be a keeper.

I have seen more of New England in the last year than I have in my first 40. And I ain't even close to being done...

Shooting birds is *much* easier...

I do much the same thing, although I don't think to the same extent that you do. I use the internet a lot to search for places to visit, and I have 2 atlases (one next to my computer and one in my car). I'm not native to this area of the country, so I don't know a lot of what's out there so it takes some research to find places to go. Your site is great and I know I will be visiting some of the places you have listed. Thanks!

Ah yes the Blue Mountain state 'Vermont'  All kidding aside Scott, I really like the shot and the effect that is created by the bluish cast. Nice.

Nice shot. That layered effect is terrific. And there is color there, just not the color you wanted (that's what PS is for, no?). And in a couple of weeks the colors will change again. To white!
