I have the 430exII and am looking to invest in an additional flash as I'm beginning to do weddings. I've considered purchasing the 580exII but wanted to ask around first before spending the additional money. I have a 20D and a 50D that it will be used on. Is it worth the purchase or would the 430exII be better considering my bodies? Help!

You can get a 580ex if you want to save some cash, but I would definitely recommend getting something that can act as a wireless master if you are going to add a second flash. Either 580 body can do this and will put out more light than a 430.

I guess I worded this incorrectly....

I have 2 cameras and looking for a flash for the second one. Thought about upgrading to the 580exII as I have the 430exII now. Is there a lot of difference between the two to justify the cost?

There are some differences...

1. Faster controls (the dial mainly)
2. Weather Resistance
3. More Power
4. Full 180 in both directions (big one for me)
5. Controls other flashes
6. Takes external battery power
7. ... there might be more... but not off the top of my head

580 EX II is more feature rich, but also significantly bigger. The power difference is 1/2 stop max.
Also check this out, based on the report, 430 EX II is an improved design internally

Hope there will be 580 EX III soon.

Out of the two, I'd go for the 580EXII. There may be times when you want to use both flashes with a single camera, and the 580EXII will allow you to do that without any additional gear.

I'd suggest getting the 580exII. You can never tell when you are going to need the the extra power.

I've seen tests that show it at a full stop. But when you need to bounce off a ceiling I'll take what I can get.

A 580 I or II or even an older 550 would be better than a 430 series flash for weddings. Any 5xx EX series will allow a master/slave ability with two flashes. The 580 series is better for bounce as you can rotate the head into any position. The 430 can't be fully rotated so you're more confined. Also the 5xx series allows for a power pack to be connected for longer shooting and quicker recycle times. Lastly the 5xx series has more power. Definately worth the extra cost.

If you have 7D, its flash can work as a master. Inability to rotate the head 180 to the right is a really stupid move from Canon, most likely just to handicap it.
Luckily there is always a way. :)
