interesting...on my monitor this shot looks great, when I post it the dress looks blown.

It is a bit blown to me, but not too bad. It is a very white dress obviously. Cute shot too, by the way. :)

They are engine tests and are only an engine attached to a stick. They are built from biodegradable paper, wood, and cardboard tubing.

Any reports of livestock or people getting knocked out by things falling out of the sky? ;)

Meet the B & S Railroad...(Beleaguered & Schizophrenic).

I'm posting these mainly for the benefit of my brother who has heard about this project, but has not yet seen it. It's about 3/4 finished on the lower lever, and less than 1/2 done on the upper level. There will be another leg of both levels of the layout against the wall (sliding door, actually) where I'm standing while taking the o'head shot. The portion to the left in the photo will also be two levels, but it's much easier to do the trackwork on the exposed lower level before building more benchwork above it.

The 'spiral' is called a helix, and it allows the trains to move from one level to the other without excessive grades. In this case, it's about 2 1/2%, and that's actually pretty steep for real railroads, but not so bad on a model. There's almost 40 ft of track from where the grade begins at the far end to where it returns to the upper level, although it doesn't look like that much. The rise is about a foot.

Except for the helix, I'm just starting to lay track (the expensive part of the process), so it will likely look very much like this for a while.

Some of the more eagle-eyed among you will likely notice that the bed is not made. That's because there's a 25-lb cat laying on it, and I didn't have the heart to move here.

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

The bedroom is quite large. This is an (approximately 9 X 11 ft) alcove off one side. It wasn't my idea. Lois is the one who insisted I put it there instead of in the middle of the kitchen.

. . . not in the dining room? You could keep the salt and pepper on flatcars, use a reefer for the butter, salsa in hopper cars and Worcestershire sauce in a tank car, then run the train around to pass them back and forth.

Looks like some big boy is having lots of fun with his trains. Neat looking setup there, Tom.

I really am having fun. Unlike my experience with photography, when I'm working on the trains, if I spend 10 minutes, an hour, or even an entire day solving just one little problem, I'm satisfied. I wish that was true with photography where I hardly every solve the problem.

After my time . . . Maybe I'll look for a copy - need a ring-tone for you. Or would you prefer to be announced by Judy Collins' Pirate Jenny?

When this (external link) woke us up early yesterday morning (2:57 EDT), I admit that once I figured it wasn't right near us I did start wondering if Zane was OK, and what his neighbors would be saying given the way his street's been going. Then wishing I'd bookmarked the links he's given us for Emergency Services communications over the Web.

HOLY WOW!!!!!!! We had a house that blew up last year sometime... I'd post a link to my pictures... but there's no longer a link for me to post.. :(

And I like the 867-5309 song!

Oh, good idea. Not that she ever phones me, but if she did I would know right away who it is.

"Jenny, I've got your number...." sings Jim as he heads out the door. :)

 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can sing that song to me any time! ;)

I remember my dad and I had a model train set up in the garage... it was fun to work on it with him...
