Lonnie, there is not an issue at the heights they are jumping at. There is a technique used in the military called HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) which is used to insert people undetected where you jump from +30,000 feet and open the shoot at about 300 ft. That needs an air supply. And if i remember rightly a change of underwear :-)

It doesn't matter what height I jump from. If I didn't open the chute until 300 feet, I'd definitely need a change of underwear!!!

Anyway, I was wondering what altitude they were jumping from because you mentioned Nevada and California, and with that lake down there I figured they were probably near Las Vegas, which means one of those mountains down there is Charleston, at just under 12,000'. And, in the video it looked like they were closer to the moon than the mountain top when they jumped...

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

My cousin Harry (Jennings) has recently returned from Afghanistan so to unwind he and some of his army buddies have headed off to Nevada and California to unwind and have some quiet R&R.

There is a video of what they got up to which some of you may find fun.

Lisa none of us sing but for the shower, my brother's sang with the NYC Opera children's choir when they were younger.

My parents loved performing together, one of my favorite things would be when we had special occasions we would go into NYC where there was a restaurant that still had singing waiters and waitress' as well as professional singers. They worked there when we were little and we would go and they would sing together and for eachother and we would enjoy a delicious meal.

Stopping in real quick before bed. (I should have been in bed hours ago)

My Grandma died this morning. :( She'd been suffering with Alzheimer's for several years, and as hard as it is to let her go, we are thankful that she's finally freed from the ravages of that horrendous disease.

2 of our H.A.R.T. dogs died today as well.
Cookie, our little black poodle who had suffered terrible abuse.
And Nani, our old chocolate lab with cancer who had just been hanging on for the last few months.

It's been a rough day, and I'm not sure I can cry anymore.

I head to Colorado tomorrow morning to be with Grandpa for a few days.
I don't know if he's got internet or not. I'm taking my laptop just in case.
I'll check in when I can.

Love and hugs,
Cat

So sorry, Cat. Our sympathy.

Zane - welcome back!

Happy Birthday, Pete!

Unless they have some very very special parachutes that open very very quickly, I'm guessing they're opening above 300 meters, not feet. Especially when one factors in the weight of the equipment loads.

I used to have a parachute that I could pack to open in 300 feet and the opening shock would leave black and blue marks where the harness yanked me upright. It took another 200 feet of altitude before I had it completely under control and could set up for a landing.

In my experience jumpers who opened at 300 feet were usually dead on impact. The "lucky ones" may only have been seriously injured.

Hi Everyone. Short day today - I gave a couple of breaks, and then went to a meeting, and came home.

Eli's class is doing 'their version' as he calls it, of the tempest tomorrow. He is a dragon and playing his guitar, this should be fun!

That sounds like Eli is going to have fun
