I need to purchase two strip boxes for my 202VF Black Line heads and I'm working on some what of a budget. I think I'm wanting to stay around or under $300.

Here's a 1'x4' Creative Lighting strip box. All the reviews but one on B&H are favorable. They're $155 each. If I purchased these, what would I need to get them connected to my heads?

E-bay has 30cm x 120cm softboxes with speed rings, and honeycomb grids for $86 shipped. I suspect the quality isn't superb.

Elinchrom Rotalux makes a 1.6' x 4.25' strip box for $215. Quality on my 39" Deep Octa is great, so I'm sure it's the same way. The problem with this is that it's $135 for the Kacey Adapter, so it would end up costing $350 per box. That and they're out of stock.

This is going to be used for cars and people and mostly on location, so I'm expecting to purchase one of two things, one that's quality and will hold up or one that's cheap and will pay for itself enough for me to purchase additional units when they finally die. Kind of like Westcott's $20 43" umbrellas. So, does anyone have suggestions of other options I should be looking at or any ideas on what to purchase?

I would also suggest looking at Photoflex strips. They're available with white or silver interiors, with the white being significantly cheaper for the budget conscious.

Materials and design are excellent. The quick release corners are very convenient and the quality of light is beautiful. I've also found Photoflex boxes to be very durable and roadworthy.

I also like that grids are available and they are some of the more reasonably priced grids available for the control they offer. I've seen cheap grids on ebay but the control is not that great and the cell size is fairly large and not very deep.

I see they have one that's 4.5' in length for $169 & $42 for an adapter. I have an adapter that was sold to me with the lights that may work, so I'd probably only need one.

Is 4-4.5' going to be sufficient for lighting cars? I can do composites if needed.

Medium strips are really versatile. If you want to step up the size then you're looking at a strip that's about 21" x 84". It's huge.

Chimera makes one of that size and there are many on ebay. I can't say that you would need strips that large or that a medium strip wouldn't do the job.

I ordered a Photoflex medium white strip box and a speedring. If I like it, I'll probably end up purchasing a second one next week.

Did I order the right ring? It's the Octo ring.

The Octo ring will work with standard square or rectangular softboxes, strip boxes and octas.

I have many Photoflex speed ring's and they're all of the octo variety. :)

Awesome. I checked last night and I have a square photoflex/speedo spreading that was in the gear I received when I bought the speedotron pack and heads. Should that work with the strip box if I decide to purchase another? It arrived yesterday and it's still in the box. I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

If the speed ring is designed for a square or rectangular box then getting it to work with a strip may be difficult or impossible. The rods really aren't intended to angle away from the mounting point on the ring.

I can't say for sure that it won't work or that you can't make it work but it's not intended for that.

I may have an extra Photoflex Octa ring. PM me if you're interested in a very good price. ;)

just as an FYI, my chimera stripboxes require a square speedring, the shape of the box spreads out at the back and tapers towards the front

Yes but that's the opposite of a standard strip box design, Martin. That's why Chimera strips are soooo cool!!!

Photoflex and other strips are only slightly wider than the speed ring and won't allow that extreme angle of the rods.

If I have a chance I'll try to set up a strip using the 4 points on the speed ring that would normally be used to go to the 4 corners of a square or rectangular softbox.
