Median Stack Gimp Equivalent?

In Photoshop, there is an image stack method called 'median' which is great for removing people at landmarks if you take a series of images. Here's (external link) an example.

Is there an equivalent in Gimp? I've searched but I can't find anything.

I don't have Gimp, but I'd imagine that, as with Photoshop, it would require the use of either cloning or manually blending layers. I've heard of special apps that can do fancy stuff like that but at best they would maybe be available as plug-ins.

A second bash:
It would appear not. Look at the Help Manual below

"Stack" talks about layers, but there's no result for "Median"

Manipulating layer stacks with masks and such is not that complicated and is common for a lot of purposes like exposure blending, focus blending, and doing "composite"-type images where you blend in pieces from photos (easy if they share the same background).

But, yes, there are "special" applications for specific purposes and, like I said, some come as plug-ins for Photohop or Gimp or whatever.

This might work (no idea, since I don't use Gimp)

PhotoAcute, the multishot techniques program, can do that.

It's commercial software, but you can obtain a free license if you supply them with sample shots for a camera/lens combination that hasn't been profiled yet.

Tony - manually manipulating masks is often not feasible at landmarks where you would be blending 100+ shots to get something where no people are present. If you look at this example (external link) (The Bean in Chicago, 1/3 down the page), they took 100 or so exposures over the course of an hour. The median stack function through the algorithm simply removed the people. Another benefit of median stack is the noise reduction (external link).

Yeah, I've seen some sophisticated software, so it's just whether it's available as a plug-in for Gimp like the OP is asking.
