it's not that there is a cult that MUST have them... it's because they have the Luxuries that some people need. Faster AF, larger apertures, weather sealing.... all that good stuff that comes with buying the brands best in class.

At one point, I was up to 4 of them (24-105L, 70-200L, 85L and 400L) plus 1.4x extender.

Right now, I am up to 2 plus both extenders... 24-105 and 70-200, plus 1.4x and 2x. I got a pancake coming tomorrow and my Samyang 14mm is every-bit of L glass IMO, minus AF!

4 today, and 5 by next week. Not inlcuding the FD lenses for my Canon EF, I have

EF 50mm f/1.4
EF 24-105mm f/4L
EF 100mm f/2.8 macro
EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6
And on the way is an EF 17-40mm f/4L

I also have the EF25II Extension Tube. I'm probably going to sell my 70-300 in favor of the 100-400L. In the end I will have 5 lenses. That's my plan anyway.

Jim, How come you FD stuff does not show up on your "my stuff" listing?

I used to have an EF body, if was usually my second body I carried around along with my F1.

April 2012:
Three, all white.

And with the prices of the new II superteles it may stay that way. If I really get into landscapes I could add two more shorter ones and a 5D2 or 5D3.

Had a talk with my wife for a birthday gift and got a "Landscape Kit."

5D3, 24-105 f/4L, 17-40 f/4L and the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L

So that gives me six L's, three white and three black. Still wondering about the 70-300 for the rookery at Gatorland. It would be nicer than the 70-200 + 1.4x when I would like a quick change to 70mm vs the 98mm with the 1.4x.
