I love my 1.4 50mm. Wouldn't trade it for anything!

Oh lol ^^ if canon would make the 50 1.8 less plastic I would buy it again. First one fell apart after small fall (~1m)

+1, but I do agree that it sucks that Canon refuses to make an affordable fast 50 with real ring USM. The 50 1.4's AF motors tendencies to fail is a joke...
I'd like a good build quality 50 1.4 or 1.8 with ring usm and internal focus.

Some of my lenses focus beyond infinity...!

Yup.

I was about to offer you a Canon 1200mm L for a straight trade, but I guess I'll forget that now :p :p

As did mine, that's why I sprang for the 1.4. The autofocus and build, I'm sorry to say, is very lacking.

Hopefully this one will have nicer bokeh than what usually comes at this price point. Otherwise sounds like a nice lens.

Canon's likely to release another 400mm lens before a new 50 1.8 or 1.4. The 1.8 falls apart during shipping and the 1.4 AF fails after a year. Canon has just chose to focus on telephoto lenses and neglect the wide angle/normal crowd.

There are alternatives to Canon lenses. You don't have to go all Canon.

Or just purchase MF lenses and avoid the AF problems altogether.
