One light, one reflector, and one daughter at 5:30pm back in the woods by the shed.
Trying to learn the light. Almost turned afternoon into night heh:lol:!

Shot with a 70-200 f2.8L non-IS @ 1/250 f22
Funny thing is my CyberCommander metered f11 but the pics are insane bright if I try to shoot f11. I don't know if i'm doing something wrong, or the meter is off?

My wife and her are my learning models!
It's hard to shoot her because she's a competition dancer and the poses she wants to strike may be a little risque for her age. I weed out the risque ones though!

I like #1 the best. It has great interaction with the camera and she looks completely relaxed. Nice shot.

In #1 you can see the reflected light just skimming the back right of her head. That's supose to be fill light.
The reflected light is nonexistent in the others. I missed :( I have engineering training and can't calculate simple reflection angles...lovely! Bring a laser pointer with me from now on!

What is "insane bright"? Do you mean overexposed? Is the subject exposed, but the background blown out?

What was your ISO setting?

These images look underexposed to me.

I think the first picture would have been great if the subject wasn't being impaled by the fence, and it if was exposed correctly - and maybe just turn the right arm (camera left) to match the left (camera right). The expression in this one is more flattering than the others.

Yes I meant her being over exposed, the background was effectively blacked out either way...I think I need to rely on the histogram more.

I was ISO 100.

And it does look underexposed, hence histogram more!

Thanx for the feedback!

Practice what you preach....you said this

#3 .... So much whites of the eyes all on one side though.

on another thread https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1028045 about a pose almost identical to your shot #3...

Just thought it was ironic that you would critique a shot and then post the same situation showing the same thing. No offense meant.

No offense taken...
These photos were posted before those I commented on today.
And...I am absolutely still learning myself.
Also, these pics, and most anything I post for a while are purely for practice lighting hence

Trying to learn the light.

as I posted in the initial post! And this is a ten year old girl who happens to be my daughter and happens to not care to take modeling direction from me very well after already having sat for who knows how many thousands of pictures throughout the years.

Here's what I got today trying to practice butterfly lighting...see what I mean...

Yeah, she wouldn't even take her glasses off LOL!

I feel this was an unnecessary thing to say. I don't know why you would point that out and then say "no offense". There are people's work that I critique and they are better photographers than me by a mile. I find it helps you develop your eye for "faults" in your own composition by critiquing/picking another person's work. It's also harder to notice mistakes in your own pictures so I don't think there was anything hypocritical about what he said, as it seems implied to me.

Yes she is really on the phone with one of her friends.
She paid be no mind at all except to glare at me when I would try to direct her slightly.
