Checking with resellersratings.com is always a wise thing to do. THey are pretty reputable and cover a lot of online retailers.

Also, Canon has their own store locator. I am assuming since Canon themselves are calling them out, that they are authorized by Canon to sell their goods.

Yeah, I used reselleratings.com to check... glad I found this forum. ;)

Stay away from www.abesofmaine.com (external link)

These guys are really no better than those listed "unauthorized" sellers...they sell to you for the same price as B&H, and you get 30 minutes of upselling for "upgraded batteries" and "metal hotshoe" or "shutter speed failure protection" before they tell you that your credit card is declined...

Why does everybody list their gear here?

I'm not sure how comprehensive that list is. I don't even see B&H on there.

B&H has their own personalized rebate form, as do many other large vendors. But for the small-frys out there, they just link to the generic rebate form that has this link on it. Beach Camera/BuyDig also has their own personalized rebate form.

So basically anybody showing a rebate link and it goes to this list, verify that they are on it, because otherwise your rebate, like for the PRO 9000, could be rejected.

I wish Canon would maintain a master list somewhere and keep it updated for ALL authorized centers, and not have these lists by rebates, etc. It would certainly make things easier for new Canon buyers.

I think that list was a list compiled by the OP, sending info to Canon for clarification.
Also having been a "reseller" for certain products, there is often a subtle difference between authorized and not. Sometimes it means something, other times it does not.

It would seem that "authorized" means you get access to rebates, you might get better "support". Really most authorization programs are about volume of sales and possibly dedicating a CSR to the product line. Further there is probably some sort of difference in the authorization between being a B&M v. online retailer. The theory is the seller will have a better channel to the mfg, better support from the mfg etc and so on.

Sometimes it's the difference between a manufacturer's warranty and no warranty. Sometimes it's the difference between being able to download software updates and not being able to do so. It often means something.

What about Broadwayphoto.com and 1wayphoto.com...?

Are these authorized Canon dealers?

Thanks in advance.

These are both bait and switch companies in Brooklyn and look to me to be run by the same people. Steer Clear!!
Their physical address is the same and is an abandoned building in Brooklyn.

More on my stay away from list
photo dynasty
shop digital direct
prestige camera
camera addict
foto connection
sonic cameras
enterprise photo
tristate camera
bestpricecameras.com

There are of course a miriad of others but these are at the top of the list. google the namesand not the websites. There are more bait and switch and that one is on backorder horror stories than you will be able to read in one sitting. Looking on lowpricedigital.com they are all "Trusted sellers". Looking elsewhere they are anything but.

I see Ebay.com is not part of the authorized stores list. What if we buy from an authorized store through Ebay? Surely that wouldn't void our warranty, would it?

Newegg.com is now listed as an authorized dealer on Canon's site:

newegg on Canon's site. (external link)

You may want to update the original list. Thanks.
