I started in the west country of the UK in2009 and business enquiries and orders ramped up quite nicely. In fact 2011 looked like it should have been overwhelming.....BUT....I've only had 2 enquires since new year and no orders.
Is it me or is the expectation of a recession really hit us Wed Photogs?
How is new business for others? Or am I alone in experiencing this drop of a cliff?

The season has its hot and cold cycles. I was nearly overwhelmed with inquiries (about half going to contract) during December and January; even much of February. Barely a nibble through March and April. And then, just as abruptly, it'll come back. Don't read too much into short periods of quiet.

Have you increased your prices in that period per chance ?

Business is very easy to come by if your good and charging very little, word of mouth spreads quickly, its a whole lot harder to come by when your prices are more or less in line with many other photographers, competition is fierce at the moment so you have to market yourself extensively and offer something a bit different to stand a chance of clients that many others are chasing.

Even if your prices haven't gone up inquiries can be like buses, none for a week or even longer and then 3 or 4 can come along within an hour of each other, its a very strange phenomenon, maybe it has something to do with the phases of the moon or something :)
