I know the sharpest zoom is the 70-200 f/4 IS, or the new 70-200 f/2.8 IS II

However, I want to know the sharpest lens, prime or not, between 20mm and 100mm.
Is the 35mmL sharper than the 50mmL

Thanks.

Sharpness is relative. The sharpest lens within your range is most likely a macro, or even a tilt/shift lens. So, unless your question is strictly for philosophical debate it would help if you narrowed things down. Budget? Zoom or prime? Focal length?

Does it have to be a Canon lens? If not, you might be suprized at the answer.

no budget, I dont care if its a zoom or a prime, Im just curious if there was a consensus on the sharpest lens. I know all the L lenses are going to be sharp, but is there one that stands out above the rest?

Set up all the lenses in good light at f5-6 to f8 and would be very hard to tell the difference.
If you application requires something outside of that then you have a valid question.

What is your application.

funny that neither portraits nor weddings put a huge emphasis on the sharpness of an image. It's usually more about composition. Maybe it's just me.

What body are you using?
