Great capture but I would prefer it with a bit more subtle processing. I don't know whether you have done some pseudo HDR on it, or just over sharpened it, but it looks too much like a drawing to me, and not like a photograph.

No HDR, probably over sharpened - I tend to get carried away with that filter

why are so many of you concerned with how "natural" or photographic it looks? Not critizing but an image is an image... with all this technology and imagination and creativity who cares what it looks like or what its supposed to look like! do you like the image or not!?

Well, if you put it like that, no, I don't like the image.

How can you say "who cares what it looks like"? It's a photograph and, like any other image or artwork, whether it be a photograph, painting, sculpture etc., "what it looks like" is everything. Put an image in front of someone and all they have to judge it on, is what it looks like.

I stated that this is a great capture, and I stand by that. It is a good composition and a well captured expression. Processed less aggressively, I would probably love it, as it stands I don't like it. I'm sorry, but that is based entirely on "what it looks like".

My first thought, on seeing the image, should have been "wow, great shot" rather than my actual first thought of "s**t, that's been oversharpened".

A photographer can, of course, present an image any way that pleases them. This is an art form after all, and very personal in taste. However, anybody viewing the image is also allowed to hold an opinion on it, based upon their own tastes.

I welcome all comments on my images, good or bad, if people don't like my work then telling me that, and explaining why they don't like it, helps me to advance.

Thanks for all the comments and interest. Here's another try with only a tiny amount of high pass sharpening and a slight levels tweak.

great shot. I prefer the second attempt you've had. I also thought the first looked way oversharpened.
The composition and image itself are great though, and as was mentioned, it is much better to let that come through. Nice work
