And yet you considering cheap ebay triggers ?

Im not sure they gonna make you look any better.

I don't get this statement. There has not been any widespread reports of the V5, 602 or 603 triggers failing to fire. In fact, there have been MULTIPLE reports of their reliability even at 100 meters, side by side with a PW that wasn't firing past 30 meters.

In the end, it doesn't matter if you have a home-brew piece of **** hooked up to your flash. As long as it does its job, it's worth every penny in my book.

The 'cheap' triggers do their jobs well, and they aren't over-built or over-priced. If you need something to just work, then you have to consider them. Sure they don't have bells and whistles attached, nor the brand name recognition. Does a client care? Nope - they don't know the difference.

I was referring to fact OP complained about inconsistent performance on shoots in front of the clients....

There is a reason radio triggers like PW are still the industry standard, simply because they are reliable and compatible with professional gear. Im referring to the PW II/MAX of course.

If your happy with ebay triggers that's awesome.

and which one do you think would be more noticeable for the client:
1. a cheap trigger sitting on my camera that works or
2. my flash not going off due to a trigger that doesnt
 back at ya

I thought the PW II worked without any problems ?

Yes it matters which flash you use.

I should have been clearer. What I meant was that, if the op also used 430EX II, which he/she did not specify, then this doesn't matter. The difference between his/her experience and mine has to be due to something else.

is that outdoors? i can get a pretty consistent no fire outdoors using a 580exII or 430ex. my sunpak 383s are no problem. indoors PWs are pretty flawless for me, no compaints there.

i probably failed to mention that reliable outdoor performance is what im looking for. ill have to do more research on all the brands listed here so far.

i was hoping PW would eventually fix the "Range limited due to RF interference from flash only when connected to a remote FlexTT5." problem. i guess not.

Yes, it's outdoor. You can take a look at my recent session starting this page. http://colormaniac.smugmug.com …81_3HtFn#1225765481_8qnWE (external link)
Some of those pictures were taken 13.8m away, i.e., 45ft away.

I am not interested in getting into a debate of whether PW is good or bad. What I'm saying here is only that in my experience outdoor performance at around 40-50ft, with 430EX II, it is OK. I'm surprised that the op's can't do that for even 6ft.

I'm a pro, or at least a paid photographer, and I much prefer the 602s over my Pocket Wizard triggers. They are smaller (5 receivers in the space of 1 PW), more discrete (no more sticking the pocket wizard aerial up my bloody nose), just as reliable (more so than the flexies), 1/18 the price in the UK (guarantees reliability through multiple redundancy), much better and more solid hotshoe fitting (I can now use guns like the 430ez, 540ez, 550ex etc much easier - and no flappy PWs hanging off a cord), all the cords included for remote shutter (PW cords cost a bomb) etc etc.

Im referring to the PW II not the flex, and if you have good experience with cheap ebay triggers that's awesome.

Im not sure how you hold your camera but if the pw antenna is sticking up your nose your holding your camera in a very strange way.

You try raising it up to your eye from your chest when your model gives you the expression you have been after for the last hour!

UP my nose, in my eye, I've had it bloody all.

the problem is that i have the 580exII and 430ex which PW claims to emit RF noise that disrupts the signal. and no im not going to sell my flashes to buy new ones. yea im not into debating whether PW is good or bad. ive had bad experiences from the start and am just basically looking for alternatives. if people love PW great, i wont talk them out of it.

yes. it works fine. but at $130 used resale value, i rather get 4x cactus or even more YNs which do the same thing, if not, better. and a previous post mentioned about dangling sync cords too, i too rather have a clean setup with trigger mounted directly to flash. get my drift now?
